In a surprising turn of events as reported via CNBC, LinkedIn has decided to halt its ambitious project, code-named “Blueshift,” which aimed to shift its data center technology from physical facilities to Microsoft’s Azure cloud. This move is a setback for Microsoft in its pursuit of cloud dominance, where it faces fierce competition from Amazon Web Services (AWS).
LinkedIn abandons Azure
The company’s intention to transition to Azure and move away from its on-premises data centers back in 2019. This decision came three years after Microsoft’s acquisition of LinkedIn for a staggering $27 billion. Despite already utilizing Azure for specific tasks, the broader migration plan was named “Blueshift.”
Despite the temporary setback, Microsoft Azure remains crucial for LinkedIn’s collaboration, productivity, and delivering value to its members. Azure FrontDoor, in particular, is instrumental in maintaining a content delivery network that ensures information is quickly accessible worldwide.
The decision to postpone its migration to Microsoft Azure signifies a notable development in the competitive landscape of cloud services. While Microsoft faces challenges, its continued investments and strategic partnerships position Azure as a key player in the ever-evolving technology landscape.
