Microsoft has taken a bold leap into the future of AI-powered creativity with the global launch of Bing Video Creator, a new feature now available in the Bing mobile app. Powered by OpenAI’s Sora, Bing Video Creator enables users to generate short, AI-driven videos for free, simply by typing a text description of what they want to see. This marks the first time Sora, previously limited to paid ChatGPT plans, is available to the general public at no cost.
The Arrival of Bing Video Creator

Starting June 2, 2025, Bing Video Creator is rolling out to users worldwide—except in China and Russia—on the Bing mobile app for both Android and iOS. Microsoft plans to bring the feature to desktop and Copilot Search soon, but for now, mobile users have exclusive access. The tool is designed to be intuitive: users can find Video Creator in the app’s menu or by typing “Create a video of…” directly into the search bar.
Once a prompt is submitted, Bing Video Creator uses Sora to generate a five-second video in a vertical 9:16 aspect ratio, perfect for sharing on platforms like TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube Shorts. Users can queue up to three video generations at a time, with each video stored for up to 90 days in their account. Completed videos can be downloaded, shared via email or social media, or accessed via a direct link.
How Bing Video Creator Works
The process is straightforward:
-
Open the Bing app: Navigate to the menu in the bottom right corner and select “Video Creator.”
-
Describe your video: Type a detailed text prompt describing the scene, characters, and style you envision.
-
Generate and wait: Submit your prompt. The AI processes your request and notifies you when your video is ready.
-
Share or download: Once generated, you can download, share, or copy a link to your AI video.
Microsoft encourages users to be as descriptive as possible in their prompts, specifying camera angles, lighting, and artistic style for the best results. For example, a prompt like “In a busy Italian pizza restaurant, a small otter works as a chef and wears a chef’s hat and an apron. He kneads the dough with his paws and is surrounded by other pizza ingredients” can yield a charming, AI-generated scene.
Free Access and Microsoft Rewards
Bing Video Creator is free for all users, with 10 “Fast” video generations available per account. After these, users can opt for “Standard” speed generations at no charge or redeem 100 Microsoft Rewards points for each additional “Fast” generation. Microsoft Rewards points can be earned by searching with Bing, shopping at the Microsoft Store, or playing games with Xbox Game Pass.
Features, Limitations, and Responsible AI

Currently, Bing Video Creator supports only five-second videos in a 9:16 format, with a 16:9 landscape option promised soon. The tool does not yet support audio, music, voice-overs, or image uploads for video creation—limitations that differentiate it from competitors like Google’s Veo 3, which offers audio and longer video output.
Microsoft has implemented robust safeguards to prevent misuse. The system automatically blocks harmful or unsafe prompts, and all generated videos include C2PA metadata to help identify AI-generated content. These measures align with Microsoft’s Responsible AI principles, ensuring the tool is used safely and ethically.
Use Cases and Inspiration
Bing Video Creator is ideal for a wide range of creative and communicative needs:
-
Special moments: Generate a quick, compelling visual to commemorate an event.
-
Communication: Turn ideas or jokes into shareable videos for social media or messaging.
-
Discovery and brainstorming: Test creative directions, build mood boards, or explore different artistic styles.
How Bing Video Creator Compares to Other AI Video Tools
While Sora was once at the forefront of AI video generation, it now faces stiff competition from models like Google’s Veo 3 and offerings from startups like Runway and Luma. Sora is currently ranked fifth in the Artificial Analysis Video Arena Leaderboard, with Veo 3 leading the pack. However, Bing Video Creator stands out for its accessibility, offering free video generation to anyone with a Microsoft account—a significant advantage over paid alternatives.
Looking Ahead
Microsoft has hinted at future updates, including support for horizontal video formats and possible integration with Copilot and desktop browsers. As the tool evolves, users can expect more features, improved quality, and expanded creative possibilities.
Bing Video Creator is a game-changer for accessible AI video generation, democratizing Sora’s power for millions of users worldwide. With its easy-to-use interface, free access, and robust safety measures, Microsoft is setting a new standard for AI creativity in search and beyond.
