The Xbox April 2025 Update delivers a suite of highly-requested features that enhance the Xbox experience across mobile and console platforms. From the long-awaited return of game purchases in the Xbox mobile app to the expansion of cloud gaming and remote play, this update marks a significant leap forward for Xbox users.
Purchase Games and Manage Game Pass Easily on Xbox Mobile App

One of the most anticipated features is finally here: players can now buy games and add-on content directly from the Xbox app on iOS and Android devices. This streamlined process lets users pre-order upcoming titles like Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 + 4, purchase new releases such as Assassin’s Creed Shadows and MLB The Show 25, and even set games to pre-install on their consoles from their mobile device. Additionally, Xbox Game Pass subscriptions and perks—like exclusive emotes for Sea of Thieves—are now accessible within the app, making it easier than ever to manage your Xbox experience on the go.
This update is rolling out first to beta users and will soon be available to all on the Google Play Store and Apple App Store. If you already have a saved payment method, the app enables two-click purchases for maximum convenience.
Stream Your Owned Games Directly on Xbox Consoles
Game Pass Ultimate members can now stream select games they own—not just those in the Game Pass catalog—directly on Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One consoles. Previously, this feature was limited to select devices like Samsung Smart TVs, Amazon Fire TV, Meta Quest headsets, and web browsers. With this update, console players can instantly play their owned games without waiting for downloads or installations, saving both time and hard drive space.
To use this feature, navigate to My games & apps > Full library > Owned Games on your console. Cloud-playable games are marked with a cloud badge, and you can filter by “Ready to play” and “Cloud gaming” to quickly find eligible titles. Streaming is also possible directly from the Store app after purchasing select games.
The “Stream Your Own Game” library continues to grow, with over 100 titles available and more being added regularly, including recent hits like Disney Epic Mickey: Rebrushed and Subnautica 2, as well as upcoming releases such as Agatha Christie Murder on the Orient Express and Way of the Hunter.
Xbox Remote Play Now Available on More Devices and Browsers
Remote Play is now accessible via xbox.com/remoteplay on any device with a supported web browser, expanding beyond the Xbox app on mobile. This change means you can play any game installed on your console from virtually anywhere, including on Samsung Smart TVs, Amazon Fire TV devices, and Meta Quest headsets.
Additionally, backward compatible titles from the original Xbox and Xbox 360 are now streamable via remote play across all supported devices—a first for the platform.
New Tools to Help You Free Up Space and Organize Your Games

Managing storage is easier than ever thanks to new recommendations for freeing up space. The updated “Free Up Space” tool now suggests removing duplicate copies of games and titles you no longer have access to, in addition to unused add-ons and shrinkable games. Access this feature via My Games & Apps > Manage > Free up space.
Discover Game Hubs for Quick Access to Game Info and Stats
Game Hubs have also arrived for a subset of users, providing a centralized location for player stats, achievements, friends currently playing, recent captures, available add-ons, and in-game events. The default focus is always on the Play button, enabling quick access to your favorite titles. There’s also a new setting to launch games directly, bypassing the hub if preferred.
Customize Your Console with Exciting New Dynamic Backgrounds
The update introduces a new dynamic background for Xbox Series X|S consoles inspired by South of Midnight, letting fans further personalize their consoles.
