1Password launches native ARM64 app for Windows 11 PCs

1Password, the popular password management service, has officially released a native ARM64 version of its Windows application, marking a significant milestone for users of ARM-based Windows PCs. This new release comes after months of rigorous testing and valuable feedback from the community.

The ARM64 version of 1Password for Windows is now fully supported on a wide range of devices, including:

  • New Copilot+ PCs
  • ARM-based Surface devices
  • Other ARM-powered Windows computers

Users can obtain the new ARM64 version through two primary channels:

  1. Microsoft Store: The app is readily available for download directly from the Microsoft Store.
  2. Direct installer: A standalone .EXE installer can be downloaded from the official community website.

It’s important to note that existing users of the ARM preview release or any previous version of 1Password on ARM-based Windows PCs should uninstall their current app before installing this new version. Rest assured, local accounts and data will remain intact during this process.

Limitations

The ARM-native version boasts feature parity with its x64 counterpart, ensuring users have access to the full range of password management tools and functionalities. However, there are a few minor differences to be aware of:

  1. The .EXE installer is currently the only option available for ARM64, with no MSI installer provided at this time.
  2. Nightly and beta channels are not yet available for the ARM64 version.
  3. The direct installer is accessible through the community post link but is not yet listed on the main 1Password.com download page.

Automatic updates and future development

1Password has confirmed that the ARM-native version will receive automatic updates moving forward, ensuring users always have access to the latest features and security enhancements. The company has also committed to keeping the community informed about any changes or improvements to the ARM64 version’s availability and distribution channels.

Community engagement

1Password encourages users to share their experiences, report any bugs, and provide feedback about the new ARM64 version through the dedicated community thread. This open line of communication demonstrates the company’s commitment to continually improving its products based on user input.

The release of a native ARM64 app for Windows 11 PCs represents a significant step forward, catering to the growing market of ARM-based Windows devices. As more manufacturers adopt ARM architecture for their Windows PCs, this move ensures that 1Password users on these platforms can enjoy optimal performance and compatibility.
