What is Copilot Vision in Microsoft Edge?

Copilot Vision is Microsoft’s latest AI innovation, now available for free to all Edge users in the United States. This feature allows Copilot, Microsoft’s AI assistant, to “see” and interpret what’s on your screen within the Edge browser, offering real-time insights, summaries, and contextual suggestions as you browse. Previously limited to Copilot Pro subscribers, Copilot Vision is now accessible to anyone with a Microsoft account using Edge, marking a significant democratization of AI-powered browsing.

Copilot Vision is out now, free in Edge. It can literally see what you see on screen (if you opt in). Pretty amazing! It’ll think out loud with you when you're browsing online. No more over-explaining, copy-pasting, or struggling to put something into words.

Copilot Vision Features

  1. Screen Analysis: Copilot Vision can scan and understand the content of the current web page, providing summaries, explanations, and actionable advice tailored to what you’re viewing.

  2. Conversational AI: Users interact with Copilot Vision through natural language—either by typing or using voice commands. The AI responds conversationally, making the experience intuitive and hands-free.

  3. Contextual Assistance: Whether you’re shopping on Amazon, reading a Wikipedia article, or following a recipe, Copilot Vision can offer recommendations, step-by-step guidance, or summarize lengthy content.

  4. Privacy-First Design: Copilot Vision is opt-in and only active when you enable it. Microsoft states that only Copilot’s responses are logged for safety monitoring; your inputs and page content are not stored, and all data is deleted at the end of each session.

  5. Limited Site Support (for now): As of April 2025, Copilot Vision works with nine major websites: Wikipedia, Amazon, Food & Wine, Tripadvisor, Target, OpenTable, Williams Sonoma, Wayfair, and Geoguessr. Microsoft plans to expand support to more sites in the future.

Activating Copilot Vision (click here) is straightforward:

  1. Sign in to Microsoft Edge with your personal Microsoft account.

  2. Open the Copilot sidebar by clicking the Copilot icon in the upper right corner of Edge.

  3. Activate Vision by clicking the microphone (voice) icon, then look for the glasses icon to confirm Vision is live.

  4. Ask questions about the current page, request summaries, or seek advice. Copilot Vision will analyze the content and respond in real time.

  5. End the session by closing the Copilot Composer or the Edge window.

On mobile, Copilot Vision can also analyze real-time video or photos via the Copilot app for Pro subscribers, making it useful for tasks like identifying objects or assessing plant health.

Real-World Use Cases

  1. Shopping: Ask Copilot Vision to compare products or recommend the best option based on your preferences while browsing Amazon.

  2. Learning: Get concise summaries or explanations of complex topics on Wikipedia or other supported sites.

  3. Productivity: Let Copilot Vision guide you through recipes, job applications, or even help draft cover letters directly from relevant web pages.

  4. Accessibility: The voice-activated, conversational interface makes web content more accessible for users who prefer or require hands-free interaction.

Privacy and Limitations

Copilot Vision is designed with privacy in mind. Only the AI’s responses are logged, not your browsing data or page content. The feature does not click links or interact with web pages on your behalf; it only highlights information or answers questions based on what’s visible on your screen. Currently, Vision is not available for work or school accounts and is limited to personal Microsoft accounts.

Why Copilot Vision Stands Out

Unlike other browser AI features that simply summarize text, Copilot Vision contextualizes what you see, offering advice and actionable insights based on both the visual and textual content of a page. Its tight integration with Edge and conversational interface set it apart from competitors like Google’s AI in Chrome or Opera’s Aria sidebar.

The Road Ahead

Microsoft has signaled plans to expand Copilot Vision’s capabilities and site compatibility, aiming to make AI-powered browsing a standard feature for all users. As the feature matures, expect broader site support and deeper integration with Microsoft’s ecosystem.

Optimize your workflow and experience the next generation of web browsing—try Copilot Vision in Microsoft Edge today.
