If you’ve ever dug an old XBOX disc out of a drawer and wished you could fire it up on your gaming PC, today’s your day. Microsoft just flipped the switch on XBOX Backward Compatibility on PC, and it’s finally letting players revisit some seriously old-school favorites without needing to hook up a console.
The news comes straight from Jason Ronald, VP of Next Generation at XBOX, who broke it down in a post on XBOX Wire. According to Ronald, this rollout is about more than just nostalgia — it’s the start of a much bigger push to bring classic XBOX titles forward with players as technology keeps changing, rather than leaving them stuck on old hardware.
XBOX Backward Compatibility on PC
For now, the early release is starting small but mighty with four original XBOX games: BLiNX: The Time Sweeper, Conker: Live and Reloaded, Crimson Skies: High Road to Revenge, and Fuzion Frenzy. These titles are playable on PC and supported handhelds — including the ROG XBOX Ally and XBOX Ally X — for the very first time ever, in supported regions starting today.
Here’s the best part: this isn’t locked behind a paywall. All four games are available to purchase individually on PC, but they’re also included with every tier of XBOX Game Pass. And if you already own a digital license for any of these games on console, that license carries right over to your PC or handheld — no need to buy them twice. Combine that with XBOX Play Anywhere and XBOX Cloud Gaming, and you can now bounce between your XBOX console, the cloud, your PC, and a handheld without losing your place.
Microsoft didn’t just port these games over and call it a day, either. The PC versions come with a real graphics upgrade while keeping the original gameplay intact. You’ll get access to:

And if you’ve been waiting years for Achievements on these old-school titles, your patience is about to pay off. Ronald confirmed that Achievements are coming to select original XBOX games on both console and PC later this year, with the four launch titles getting updated first in the coming months.

Most gaming PCs built in the last few years should handle this without breaking a sweat, and it’s a solid excuse to finally put that ROG XBOX Ally or Ally X to good use.
