Below is a comprehensive breakdown of what’s new, what’s improved, and the known issues insiders should watch for with this latest Dev Channel release.

Gradual Rollout Features: New Tools and Experiences

Taskbar & System Tray: Built-in Network Speed Test

A standout new feature for this build is the introduction of a native network speed test, directly accessible from the taskbar. Users can launch the speed test from the Wi-Fi and Cellular Quick Settings pages or by right-clicking the network icon in the system tray. The tool opens in the default browser and supports Ethernet, Wi-Fi, and cellular connections, allowing users to diagnose network problems, monitor throughput, and troubleshoot connectivity issues without third-party apps.

Get Started & Microsoft 365 Copilot Integration

Build 26220.6760 deepens Microsoft 365 Copilot’s presence on Windows 11, with a dedicated Copilot page in the “Get Started” flow for managed commercial devices. Organizations with active Microsoft 365 subscriptions benefit from easier Copilot discovery and smoother onboarding, offering guidance, shortcuts, and feature highlights right at setup.

Windows Search: Copilot+ PC Enhancements

Insiders with Copilot+ PCs will notice updated placeholder text in the File Explorer Search Box. Designed to showcase the improved Windows Search experience introduced earlier this year, the text now reads “Try describing an image or file,” accompanied by a prominent magnifying glass icon. These subtle cues encourage users to leverage advanced file and image search, making Windows 11’s search capabilities more intuitive.

Broader Rollout: Features for All Dev Channel Users

File Explorer: StorageProvider API Extension

Microsoft continues to refine File Explorer with new APIs, now allowing cloud storage providers to better integrate with File Explorer Home. Developers can access documentation to enable tighter linking between third-party cloud services and the familiar Explorer interface—an important move for productivity and cloud storage competition.

Emoji Update: Temporary Rollback

This build rolls back support for Emoji 16.0, which will be temporarily unavailable. Microsoft plans to reintroduce this update in future builds, signaling continued focus on engaging, fresh emoji experiences for Windows users.

Voice Access: ‘Wait Time Before Acting’ Setting

Accessibility gets a boost with a new voice access option—users can now introduce a configurable delay before spoken commands are executed. This level of customization helps users with varying speech tempos or patterns achieve more accurate control, ensuring that commands (such as opening apps or navigation) aren’t triggered prematurely or missed.

Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 26220.6760 Bug Fixes and Improvements

Gradual Fix Rollout (With Toggle On)

  • General Accessibility: Fixed issues where some screen readers were unable to interpret content after recent flight updates.

  • Click to Do (Preview) on Copilot+ PCs: Addressed an issue where the feature could launch unexpectedly with WIN + P.

  • Taskbar & System Tray: The battery icon synchronization issue—where the icon didn’t accurately reflect charging status—has been fixed.

  • File Explorer: Custom folder views now persist across different access methods, eliminating the need to reapply settings in common folders such as Downloads.

  • Lock & Login Screens: Media controls now appear reliably on the lock screen during playback.

  • Windows Update: Corrected a bug preventing “Update and shutdown” from properly turning off PCs.

  • Settings: Crash issues when accessing drive information (via Settings > System > Storage or File Explorer properties) have been resolved, along with placeholder text misalignment in the search box.

Fixes Applied to All Dev Channel Users

  • Networking: File and folder sharing issues tied to SMB v1 protocol (NetBIOS over TCP/IP) are fixed.

  • Developer Tools: An issue preventing playback of GPU captures with PIX on Windows has been resolved by a PIX update.

  • Video Playback: Fixed a bug affecting playback of protected content in Blu-ray, DVD, and digital TV apps using Enhanced Video Renderer with HDCP.

Known Issues: What Testers Should Watch Out For

With this release, Microsoft also details active bugs and current limitations, underscoring the experimental nature of Dev Channel builds:

  • Click to Do: Launching on the primary display with right-edge gesture triggers swipe visuals on the wrong monitor—under investigation.

  • Taskbar & System Tray: Taskbar preview animations are turned off temporarily due to issues with window sharing. There are also quirks with the auto-hide taskbar, where the system tray might appear unexpectedly.

  • Search: Some searches may return unexpected text instead of results or images.

  • Windows Studio Effects: Compatibility problems may cause camera preview failures on certain external webcams. Turning off Studio Effects in camera settings is a temporary workaround.

  • Xbox Controllers: Some testers face PC crashes (bugchecks) when connecting Xbox Controllers via Bluetooth. The fix involves uninstalling the “oemXXX.inf (XboxGameControllerDriver.inf)” driver using Device Manager as a workaround.

Insider Participation: How Features Are Delivered

Microsoft’s Dev Channel leverages Controlled Feature Rollout technology, initially deploying new features to a subset of Insiders before ramping up based on feedback and reliability data. Features toggled ON under Settings > Windows Update land on systems earlier, allowing users to experience upcoming Windows technology before widespread release. However, builds and features in the Dev Channel may remain experimental and are not guaranteed to reach general availability, as Microsoft continually iterates based on real-world feedback.

Windows 11’s Evolving Future

Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 26220.6760 demonstrates Microsoft’s commitment to incremental innovation, community-driven development, and rapid response to insider feedback. From enhanced network diagnostics and developer APIs, to critical accessibility updates and Copilot integration, this release shows there’s much more to come before 25H2’s mainstream debut.

Insiders testing these features in Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 26220.6760 are advised to report bugs, share usability feedback (especially relating to localization and accessibility), and monitor the Flight Hub for updates on feature rollout status across channels. As always, participation in the Dev Channel continues to shape the direction and polish of future Windows releases.
