Xbox has announced the Cipher Series for the Xbox Elite Wireless Controller Series 2, available through Xbox Design Lab. This new collection pays homage to the classic transparent tech designs of the ’90s and early 2000s, offering six stunning transparent top cases that allow users to see the inner workings of their controller. Alongside the Cipher Series, Xbox has also introduced two vibrant chromatic D-pad and paddle designs, as well as the Xbox Wireless Controller Special Edition – Ghost Cipher.
The Cipher Series: A blast from the past with a modern twist

The Cipher Series draws inspiration from iconic translucent tech of the past, bringing a retro-modern aesthetic to the Elite Series 2 controller. Each of the six transparent top cases tells a unique story:
- Ghost Cipher: A fully transparent top case that offers a clear view of the controller’s inner workings.
- Velocity Cipher: A transparent green top case that pays homage to the iconic Xbox green.
- Astral Cipher: A rich, regal shade of purple that captures the mysteries of deep space.
- Surf Cipher: A transparent blue top case that channels the energy of ocean waves.
- Candy Cipher: A playful pink top case that offers a dreamy, sweet vision.
- Pulse Cipher: A striking transparent red top case that embodies passion and power.
Chromatic paddle designs
In addition to the Cipher Series, Xbox has introduced two new chromatic D-pad and paddle designs: Energy Chroma and Sunset Chroma. These metallic finishes blend hues to create a hypnotic gradient that shifts depending on the angle, adding a sci-fi, jewelry-like feel to the controller. Energy Chroma starts with the signature Xbox green and fades into blues, yellows, and magenta accents, while Sunset Chroma evokes a warm, summery glow with its transition from yellow to bright pink.
Performance and personalization
The Cipher Series and chromatic D-pad and paddle designs are built around the most advanced controller Xbox has to offer. With rubberized diamond grips, adjustable-tension thumbsticks, and shorter hair trigger locks, the Elite Series 2 controller ensures performance tailored to your playstyle. Xbox Design Lab allows users to add extra thumbsticks, D-pads, paddles, and complimentary 3D printable files to 3D print for adaptive thumbstick toppers, making the controller as personalized and comfortable as possible.
Xbox Wireless Controller – Ghost Cipher Special Edition
Alongside the Cipher Series, Xbox has announced the release of the Xbox Wireless Controller – Ghost Cipher Special Edition. This controller features grey and bronze accents and a clear top case, revealing silver interior parts including a rumble pack in the side grips. Its rubberized back grips and bronze metallic D-pad and triggers offer both style and performance, perfect for players who appreciate a refined, sophisticated design.
