Microsoft has officially launched the Xbox cloud gaming app for select Amazon Fire TV devices, bringing cloud gaming to a wider audience without the need for a console. This expansion, announced in June, went live on July 8, 2024, marking a significant step in Microsoft’s Xbox cloud gaming strategy.
Xbox cloud gaming app on Amazon Fire TV

- The Xbox app is now available on Fire TV Stick 4K Max (2023), Fire TV Stick 4K (2023) models.
- Users need an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription, a compatible Fire TV device, and a Bluetooth-enabled wireless controller to access the service.
- The app provides access to hundreds of games, including popular titles like Starfield, Forza Horizon 5, and the Fallout series.
Accessibility and requirements
To start gaming, users need to:
- Download the Xbox app from the Amazon Appstore on their compatible Fire TV device.
- Sign in with their Microsoft account.
- Connect a compatible Bluetooth controller (Xbox Wireless Controller, DualSense, or DualShock 4 controllers are supported).
This collaboration between Microsoft and Amazon significantly lowers the entry barrier for Xbox gaming. With Fire TV Stick prices starting at $49.99, cloud gaming becomes more accessible to a broader audience. The move aligns with Microsoft’s strategy to expand the Xbox ecosystem beyond traditional console hardware.
Gaming on the go

One of the key benefits of this integration is portability. Users can easily move their cloud gaming setup between rooms or take it on the road, as long as they have a stable internet connection.
Daniel Rausch, Vice President of Fire TV and Alexa, emphasized the commitment to providing seamless access to entertainment, stating, “Now customers have even more ways to play the games they love on the devices they already own.”
This launch represents a significant step in Microsoft’s Xbox cloud gaming initiative, potentially reaching millions of new users through Amazon’s popular Fire TV platform. As the cloud gaming market continues to evolve, partnerships like this could reshape how consumers access and enjoy video games.
