Xbox is kicking off another Free Play Days weekend, giving players the chance to cause chaotic heist mayhem in Rubber Bandits and share the tracks with the legendary blue tank engine in Train Sim World 6: Thomas & Friends Edition. Whether you are into slapstick party brawlers or chilled-out train sim sessions with your kids, this line-up hits both ends of the couch co-op spectrum.
Free Play Days weekend details

From Thursday, March 26 through Sunday, March 29, Train Sim World 6: Thomas & Friends Edition is available at no extra cost for Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, Premium, and Essential members as part of the latest Free Play Days promotion. Over the same period, Rubber Bandits is free for all Xbox players to try under the Free Play Days for All banner, making it an easy pick-up-and-play option for anyone on Xbox One or Xbox Series X|S.
Microsoft is once again using Xbox Free Play Days to spotlight a mix of family-friendly and party-focused titles, similar to previous lineups highlighted on Xbox Wire’s latest Free Play Days post, lays out everything players need to know about jumping in for the weekend and keeping progress if they decide to buy.
How to start playing on Xbox
To get started from a browser, head to Xbox.com, open each game’s detail page, and hit the install button, which will redirect to the Microsoft Store where you need to be signed in with your Xbox account. On console, you can find both titles under the Subscriptions tab in the Xbox Store, then scroll down to the dedicated Free Play Days collection on Xbox One or Xbox Series X|S.
Because these are full versions and not demos, any Gamerscore, achievements, and save data you earn over the weekend carry over if you choose to buy the games later. Both titles also receive limited-time discounts during the event, though the exact percentage and availability can differ depending on your region.
Rubber Bandits brings physics chaos

Rubber Bandits is a physics-driven multiplayer brawler where your only real “plan” is to grab whatever is nearby and start swinging. Matches quickly descend into slapstick chaos as you smash through destructible environments, hurl objects across the map, and send friends flying through windows in the scramble to snatch the most loot.
The game supports both local and online multiplayer, with modes like Heist, Brawl, and Arcade letting you either chase cash, chase KOs, or take on AI together. With its simple controls and short match length, it’s a great couch option for parties or quick sessions between bigger games on Xbox.
Train Sim World 6: Thomas & Friends Edition

Train Sim World 6: Thomas & Friends Edition is designed as a friendly on-ramp into railway sims, built around the West Somerset Railway and the iconic engines of Sodor. This edition bundles the Thomas & Friends Visit the West Somerset Railway content and the Thomas & Friends 80th Anniversary Expansion, giving you story-led scenarios with Thomas, Annie, Clarabel, Diesel, and the Troublesome Trucks.
Alongside the themed content, you also get the Train Sim World 6 Free Starter Pack, which includes a Training Center where players can learn the basics of operating different real-world trains. For families, that makes it a rare pick that can double as a kids’ Thomas experience and a more serious sim introduction for adults on the same console.
Why this Xbox Free Play Days matters
This weekend is a smart chance for Xbox players to test-drive two very different styles of game without touching their wallet. Rubber Bandits gives Xbox owners a low-friction, high-chaos party game, while Train Sim World 6: Thomas & Friends Edition offers a surprisingly deep, family-friendly sim that ties into the franchise’s 80th anniversary celebrations.
If either one clicks, the event’s discounts make it easier to lock in permanent access while keeping all weekend progress and achievements. Expect more lineups like this through the year as Xbox continues to rotate new titles through Free Play Days and highlight them, check out our ongoing Free Play Days archive.
