gamescom 2025 lineup

Super Meat Boy 3D – Team Meat Returns with Dimension-Bending Chaos

Release Date: Early 2026
Developer: Sluggerfly / Team Meat
It’s been over a decade since Meat Boy first tested players’ reflexes, but now he’s back — and in 3D. Developed by a small team of just seven in Essen, Germany, Super Meat Boy 3D promises the same white-knuckle platforming, ludicrous humor, and gut-wrenching difficulty that defined the original.
According to CEO and Game Director Christian Patorra, the challenge was staying true to the “fast pacing and tight controls” fans expect, while finding creative new ways to play in a fully three-dimensional world. Expect brutal levels, a grotesque yet hilarious art style, and plenty of rage-quitting moments when the game lands in early 2026.
Aniimo – Creature Collecting Goes Next-Gen

Release Date: 2026
Developer: Pawprint Studio
If you ever dreamed of living in an open-world where creature battles meet social experiences, Aniimo might be your next obsession. Developed by a massive 200-person team in Hangzhou, China, Pawprint Studios is building a game that combines open-world exploration, creature catching, and role-playing depth.
Executive Producer Jovi Zhang calls Aniimo the fulfillment of a childhood dream — to create a “fantastic and beautiful world” where players bond with their chosen Aniimo. With ARPG elements, multiplayer potential, and modern visuals, this could be one of 2026’s breakout hits.
Borderlands 4 – Chaos Evolves

Release Date: September 12, 2025
Developer: Gearbox Software
Borderlands is back — bigger, crazier, and more unpredictable than ever. Borderlands 4 pushes the co-op looter-shooter formula into a seamless, dynamic open-world packed with explosive action.
Gearbox promises more advanced movement mechanics, high-stakes storytelling, and the franchise’s trademark wacky humor. Fans will get hands-on at the Xbox booth just weeks before its global release this September.
There Are No Ghosts at the Grand – A Haunting British Horror

Release Date: 2026
Developer: Friday Sundae
Indie studio Friday Sundae is unveiling its horror-mystery, There Are No Ghosts at the Grand, a narrative-driven experience set in a decaying English hotel. Players have just 30 days and nights to restore the haunted building – but as expected, nothing is what it seems behind the crumbling walls.
Writer and Director Anil Glendinning drew inspiration from classic British TV like Doctor Who, Hammer Horror films, and 1980s punk rock culture. With its mix of humor, terror, and eccentric characters, this haunted hotel could be one of 2026’s most unique horror adventures.
Metal Gear Solid Δ: Snake Eater – Legendary Stealth, Reborn

Release Date: August 28, 2025
Developer: Konami
For many fans, this is the biggest draw of Gamescom 2025. Metal Gear Solid Δ: Snake Eater, a full remake of Hideo Kojima’s Metal Gear Solid 3, is bringing one of gaming’s most iconic stealth titles to modern platforms.
Creative Producer Yuji Korekado assured fans that the remake “remains true to the gripping story of the original,” while dramatically upgrading visuals, 3D audio, and gameplay design for today’s audience. With the game launching at the end of August, Gamescom serves as the ultimate showcase before release.
Invincible VS – Comic Book Carnage

Release Date: 2026
Developer: Skybound
Based on Robert Kirkman’s wildly popular superhero series, Invincible VS is a brutal 3v3 tag-team fighting game. Packed with jaw-dropping violence and iconic characters, the game is designed to deliver an “authentic, visceral experience.”
Fans of Mortal Kombat and Marvel vs. Capcom should watch this one closely – it could become the next big crossover fighter in 2026.
Mistfall Hunter – Dark Fantasy Meets Extraction Shooter

Release Date: 2025
Developer: Bellring Games
In a bold new twist for Xbox, Mistfall Hunter combines third-person action RPG combat with strategic PvPvE extraction gameplay. Teams will not only face off against monstrous creatures but also rival groups of players vying for survival and loot.
Game Director Hao Zhang describes the game’s universe as dark, mysterious, and lore-rich — blending adrenaline-pumping combat with the tension of survival horror.
EA Sports FC 26 – Football, Evolved

Release Date: September 26, 2025
Developer: EA Vancouver
The global phenomenon returns. EA Sports FC 26 introduces new gameplay mechanics, Manager Live Challenges, and updated archetypes to make each match feel fresh and unpredictable.
Senior Producer Sam Rivera revealed that this year’s development was heavily influenced by direct fan feedback, targeting improvements in passing, shooting, and dribbling. With its worldwide release just weeks away, Cologne’s show floor will be the first chance for fans to put it to the test.
Cronos: The New Dawn – Horror in Kraków

Release Date: September 5, 2025
Developer: Bloober Team
Set in a dystopian version of Kraków’s Nowa Huta district, Cronos: The New Dawn combines survival horror, brutal combat, and haunting environments. Players must scavenge, burn monsters before they merge, and face soul-extraction mechanics in a world where humanity has lost control of time itself.
Drawing from real-world philosophy as well as genre classics, Bloober Team looks ready to deliver another chilling masterpiece right on the heels of Layers of Fear and The Medium.
Final Fantasy XVI & Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade

Two Square Enix powerhouses are also on display: Final Fantasy XVI, already released and making its Gamescom debut with new post-launch updates, and Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade, the definitive version arriving in Winter 2025.

Both games are expected to draw major crowds as fans flock to experience some of the most visually stunning RPGs on Xbox hardware.
Onimusha: Way of the Sword – Historical Bloodshed Reimagined

Release Date: 2026
Developer: Capcom
Capcom is reviving one of its classic franchises with Onimusha: Way of the Sword, delivering Edo-era samurai drama infused with dark fantasy elements. Players wield the Oni Gauntlet in a gritty campaign defined by bloody sword battles, dynamic action, and high drama.
With cutting-edge RE Engine visuals and the mix of historical and supernatural storytelling, this looks positioned to be Capcom’s next major action hit.
Xbox’s Biggest Gamescom Yet
From retro-inspired indies to AAA blockbusters, Xbox isn’t holding anything back at gamescom 2025. Whether it’s the nostalgic return of Metal Gear Solid Δ, the anarchic mayhem of Borderlands 4, or the novelty of brand-new IPs like Aniimo and Mistfall Hunter, fans have plenty to celebrate.
More than just a booth showcase, Xbox is using Gamescom 2025 to spotlight not only its platform’s star power but also the diverse global developers shaping the future of gaming. With September around the corner, titles like Cronos: The New Dawn, Borderlands 4, and EA Sports FC 26 are ready to dominate headlines — and players’ hands.
One thing’s for sure: for anyone at gamescom 2025, the Xbox Booth (Hall H) will be the place to be.
