Microsoft today announced a new category of personal computers called “Copilot+ PCs” that deeply integrate the company’s AI technologies for enhanced productivity and creativity. These devices will ship with a specialized AI processor and run a customized version of Windows 11 optimized for AI workloads.

The highlight feature is tight integration with Microsoft’s Copilot AI assistant, which can understand the context of what you’re working on and provide intelligent suggestions and assistance. For example, if you’re writing a document, Copilot can automatically suggest relevant content, citations, and formatting based on analyzing the text.

Microsoft demonstrated several AI-powered features that will ship on Copilot+ PCs, including:

  • Recall: This can record everything you do on your PC and store it as a “memory” that you can search and recall using natural language queries.
  • Screen Understanding: The AI can analyze the contents of your screen and provide contextual tips and information overlays related to what you’re viewing.
  • AI-accelerated video editing: Using the device’s AI capabilities, Copilot+ PCs can automatically edit videos by analyzing the content to add transitions, color grading, and even create animated recap summaries.

Microsoft announced that several OEMs like Lenovo, Dell, HP, Acer, and Asus will launch Copilot+ PC models powered by Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon Elite X series chips optimized for AI workloads. The first devices are expected to be available starting in June 2024.
