Microsoft announces new Windows App general availability, coming this fall to Windows 11, web, iOS and macOS, and Android

Microsoft has unveiled exciting news for general Windows 11 users and experienced IT professionals alike. The Windows App, currently in preview, is set to reach general availability this fall for Windows, Web, iOS, and macOS platforms. Additionally, a public preview of the Windows App for Android is slated for release during the same period, expanding the app’s reach to a broader user base.

General availability

The rollout of the Windows App general availability will vary slightly depending on the platform:

  1. Windows 11: The existing Windows 365 App will receive an in-place update through the Microsoft Store, transitioning to the Windows App.
  2. Web: Users will immediately see the new user interface and rebranding upon accessing the app via the new URL.
  3. iOS and macOS: An in-place update of the Remote Desktop client will be available through the Apple App Store.
  4. Android: A preview version will be released on the Google Play Store later this year.
