Microsoft has announced a new lineup of Surface for Business devices aimed at enterprise customers, signaling a deeper push into AI-powered computing and enterprise productivity. The new Surface Pro for Business and Surface Laptop for Business feature Intel’s latest Core Ultra Series 3 processors, designed to handle both traditional workloads and emerging on-device AI tasks.

The announcement, detailed in a company blog post by Nancie Gaskill, Vice President of Surface Business, emphasizes the growing importance of AI-ready hardware and integrated security. Microsoft argues that organizations must rethink their PC strategies as AI reshapes workflows, warning that companies that delay adoption risk falling behind in productivity and innovation.

The new devices are positioned as part of Microsoft’s broader vision of “AI PCs,” capable of running advanced features such as real-time transcription, on-device image generation, and live translation without relying solely on cloud processing. This shift reflects a wider industry trend toward “edge AI,” where data is processed locally for speed, privacy, and efficiency.
Surface for Business performance refresh
Performance is a key focus of the new lineup. Microsoft claims the devices deliver up to 35% better graphics performance than Apple’s MacBook Air with the M5 chip and more than 90% faster performance compared to earlier Surface Laptop models in certain configurations. The systems are also built to balance performance with mobility, offering long battery life and lightweight designs for hybrid work environments.

The refreshed portfolio includes multiple form factors. A new 13-inch Surface Laptop targets portability, while 13.8-inch and 15-inch models cater to power users with features like high-resolution touchscreens, haptic touchpads, and optional privacy screens. The updated Surface Pro maintains its 2-in-1 design, combining tablet flexibility with laptop-level performance and optional 5G connectivity.

Security and manageability remain central to Microsoft’s pitch. All devices ship as Secured-core PCs, with protections spanning hardware, firmware, and software. Integration with Microsoft tools like Intune and Windows Autopilot allows IT departments to deploy and manage devices at scale, including zero-touch setup for employees.

Microsoft is also leaning into sustainability and repairability. The new Surface devices use recycled materials, including 100% recycled aluminum in key components, and are designed with replaceable parts to extend product lifespans and reduce electronic waste.

Looking ahead, Microsoft plans to expand the lineup later this year with models powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X2 processors, promising even faster on-device AI performance and improved battery life. The move highlights Microsoft’s dual strategy of supporting both Intel and ARM architectures as AI computing evolves.

The new Surface Pro for Business and Surface Laptop for Business are available now in select markets, with prices starting at $1,499.
