Microsoft is celebrating another major milestone in style. To mark 25 years of XBOX, the company has officially unveiled a limited-edition XBOX Series X console and controller inspired by the iconic look of the original 2001 XBOX.
The announcement, shared via an XBOX Wire blog post, introduces the XBOX 25th Anniversary Collection—bringing back the nostalgic translucent OG green aesthetic that longtime fans will instantly recognize. This special release blends classic design cues with modern hardware, creating a collector-worthy tribute to XBOX history.
XBOX Series X25 Limited Edition
At the center of the celebration is the XBOX Series X25 Limited Edition. For the first time, Microsoft is giving the Series X a translucent finish, echoing the original console’s bold, see-through green shell. The console includes 1TB of storage and retains the full performance power of the standard XBOX Series X, but adds unique anniversary details.
The front features a commemorative XBOX 25th Anniversary logo, while the signature “X” lights up in green—a direct callback to the original startup experience. Microsoft also hints at hidden Easter eggs throughout the design, rewarding longtime fans with subtle nods to XBOX’s legacy.
XBOX Wireless Controller X25 Special Edition
Alongside the console, Microsoft is releasing the XBOX Wireless Controller X25 Special Edition. This controller continues the nostalgic theme with a translucent green shell that reveals its internal components. Design elements pull directly from XBOX’s early days, including the classic ABXY button colors and bumper accents inspired by the original “Duke” controller’s black and white buttons. Even the back casing and battery door are fully transparent, showcasing the classic XBOX logo inside.
Microsoft plans to release the console and controller as a bundled limited edition in select markets this November, with the controller also sold separately. Pricing and preorder details have not yet been announced, but more information is expected soon. Check out the reveal YouTube video below.
