New Xbox console repair partnership with uBreakiFix by Asurion
Starting January 20, 2025, uBreakiFix by Asurion will become Xbox’s first Authorized Service Provider, offering in-person repairs at nearly 700 locations across the United States. This expansion marks a significant shift from the previous model where repairs were only available through Microsoft Store locations.
Expanded parts availability
The program covers three specific console models:
- Xbox Series S (1TB) in Robot White
- Xbox Series X (1TB) Digital Edition in Robot White
- Xbox Series X (2TB) Galaxy Black Special Edition
Microsoft has also made replacement components available through multiple channels:
- The Microsoft Store
- Microsoft Repair Hub on iFixit
- uBreakiFix locations
Environmental impact and achievements
The announcement comes alongside impressive environmental progress. In just three years (FY20-FY23), Xbox has prevented over 1.2 million metric tons of CO2e emissions through various interventions. This reduction equals the emissions from more than 3 billion car miles, according to EPA estimates.
Energy efficiency improvements
Recent system updates have yielded significant energy savings:
- 10% reduction in power consumption across media apps on Xbox Series S
- Implementation of energy-saving features without compromising performance
- New packaging design eliminating all single-use plastics
Industry collaboration
Microsoft emphasizes the importance of collaboration in achieving its environmental goals, highlighting the Xbox Sustainability Toolkit’s role in helping game developers create more energy-efficient games. The company acknowledges that while gaming brings joy to players, it also impacts the environment, and is committed to minimizing this impact through innovative solutions. This approach to sustainability and repairability represents a big step forward in Microsoft’s goals of becoming a zero waste, carbon negative, and water positive company by 2030.
