Xbox Developer Direct 2025 showcase for January 23rd announced, featuring DOOM: The Dark Ages, South of Midnight, and others for Xbox Series X|S and PC

Xbox has announced its first major gaming showcase of 2025, with Developer_Direct scheduled to air on Thursday, January 23, 2025, at 1 PM Eastern time. The event promises detailed looks at several highly anticipated titles coming to Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Xbox Game Pass this year.

The headline announcement is DOOM: The Dark Ages, a medieval-themed prequel to DOOM (2016) and DOOM Eternal. Developed by id Software, this third installment in the modern DOOM series will reveal the origin story of the Doom Slayer’s rage, featuring a dark and sinister medieval war against Hell.

Compulsion Games, known for We Happy Few, will showcase their new project South of Midnight, a third-person action-adventure game. Set in the American Deep South, players will control a character named Hazel as they explore Southern folklore and uncover family secrets.

Adding to the lineup, newcomer Sandfall Interactive will present Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, described as an ambitious RPG set in a fantasy world. The presentation will include behind-the-scenes footage from their studio in Montpellier, France.

The Developer_Direct format focuses on direct communication between game creators and fans, offering in-depth looks at how these games are being developed. The showcase will feature studio visits to:

• id Software in Richardson, Texas
• Compulsion Games in Montreal, Canada
• Sandfall Interactive in Montpellier, France

Xbox has also teased a surprise announcement from an unnamed studio, suggesting there may be more reveals during the event.
