XBOX has rolled out its Indie Selects lineup for September 2026, and this month the ID@XBOX team leaned hard into genre mashups and fresh takes on familiar formulas. Six handpicked XBOX Indie Selects games headline the collection, each one flipping expectations in a different direction, from a superhero workplace comedy to a chaotic isekai driving sim to a Vietnam War shooter built for tactical squads.

Dispatch – $29.99

Dispatch asks a simple question: what happens when a superhero loses the thing that makes him super? You play as Robert Robertson, better known as Mecha Man, who joins the Superhero Dispatch Network after losing his mech suit. Instead of saving Los Angeles himself, he’s assigning calls to a team of former supervillains trying to go straight.
It’s part workplace comedy, part strategic narrative adventure. As emergencies pop up across the city, you decide which hero to send, and each teammate brings different strengths to the job. The voice cast, including Aaron Paul, Laura Bailey, Jeffrey Wright, and Matthew Mercer, sells the animated-series presentation, but it’s the story about identity and second chances that sticks. Truck-Kun Is Supporting Me From Another World?! – $19.99
Developer: Frosty Pop (Strange Scaffold)
The premise is exactly as absurd as it sounds. A truck driver runs over office worker Carissa, who’s instantly possessed by an anime elf girl from the isekai world of Talinfold. Your job is to cause maximum mayhem on the streets, because every human you hit spawns monsters for elf Carissa to slay for XP. Also, you still have deliveries to make.
There’s a mission mode, a free-roam mode where you can destroy cement mixers and hotdog stands, and a physics system that makes the driving feel deliciously responsive. It’s edgy, funny, and endlessly replayable.
CULTIC – $19.99
Developer: Atari, Infogrames, 3D Realms
CULTIC is a retro FPS that plays like a love letter to Blood, but calling it a boomer shooter undersells it. You’ve been brought back from the dead to wipe out a cult and the horrors it summons, and every weapon — axes, handguns, rifles, dynamite — feels great to fire. What makes it shine is the survival horror pacing, with pitch-black mine sections lit only by a lighter that ratchet up the dread between combat encounters.
Duskfade – $29.99
Developer: Fireshine Games
With Spyro’s return on the horizon, Duskfade arrives right on time as a heartfelt 3D platformer. You play as Zirian, who’s lost his grandfather and is trying to save his sister after a secret project of hers overtakes their city with hostile creatures. Expect currency collection, upgrades, merchants, and a sarcastic mechanical cuckoo along for the ride. It won’t reinvent the genre, but the developers’ love for it is contagious.
The King Is Watching – $14.99
Developer: tinyBuild
A real-time strategy roguelite with a killer twist: buildings only work when you’re actively looking at them. You defend your kingdom from waves of enemies while rotating your attention across a Tetris-like grid of just three visible spaces early on. Do you harvest crops or train archers? Mine gold or generate spells? Roguelite progression with five upgrade trees, unlockable kings, and advisor bonuses gives every failed run lasting value.
Hell Let Loose: Vietnam – $39.99
Developer: Team17
If you want the opposite of an arcade shooter, Hell Let Loose: Vietnam delivers 50v50 large-scale multiplayer warfare with no mini-map, no enemy markers, and one-bullet kills. The U.S. forces get transport and attack helicopters. The Vietnamese forces counter with tunnel networks for flanking and ambushes. With 17 classes, six maps, and multiple modes, communication is everything. Get your headset ready. If you liked previous XBOX Free Play Days shooter trials, this is the tactical deep end.
