Microsoft is rolling out a fresh wave of console features in a new Xbox Insider update, that includes a revamped boot-up sequence, new tiered Gamerscore badges, and smarter game library filters aimed at making it easier to see what you can actually play. These updates start with select Insiders today and will expand to more rings before eventually landing on all Xbox consoles.

In a new Xbox Wire post titled “Available for Xbox Insiders: New Xbox Console Updates Bring Updated Boot Up, Gamerscore Badges and More,” Microsoft confirms that the update focuses on personalization and clarity, giving players more ways to show off their achievements and better understand their game collections at a glance. The company says the features will roll out gradually, and it’s encouraging early feedback from Insiders as it tunes the experience over the course of the year.

New Xbox boot up animation

The first change you’ll notice is the new boot up experience, which introduces an updated animation and sound built around the latest Xbox logo and the familiar green color that’s become synonymous with the brand. Instead of the same old startup you’ve been seeing for years, the console now greets you with a refreshed look and feel every time you power on.

This kind of visual polish might seem small, but it’s part of Microsoft’s ongoing push to make the console feel more modern and cohesive across Series X|S and Xbox One. It also helps reinforce Xbox’s current visual identity from the second you hit the power button, bringing the dashboard, store, and ecosystem under a more unified presentation.

Tiered Gamerscore badges to show your journey

Achievements have always been at the heart of Xbox, and now your total Gamerscore is getting more prominent treatment with new tiered badges that reflect your lifetime score. These badges appear directly on your profile and in the Guide overlay, so friends (and random fireteam members) can see your history at a glance.

As your Gamerscore increases, your badge evolves with you, visually marking out key milestones on your Xbox journey. That means long-time players with huge achievement hauls get more recognition, while newer players have something tangible to grow toward beyond just a bigger number under their gamertag.

Smarter library filters so you know what’s playable

Microsoft is also tackling one of the more confusing parts of modern digital libraries: figuring out which games you actually own and can launch right now. With the new update, the game library gains clearer filters that separate:

  • Games you own outright

  • Games shared with you (for example through Game Pass or game sharing)

  • Installed titles you no longer have access to

The goal is simple: when you’re bouncing between consoles or switching devices, you can quickly see what’s truly playable without diving into error messages or store dialogs. This should be especially useful for players juggling Game Pass, family sharing, and time-limited catalog titles.

Rolling out through Xbox Insider rings

These features are launching first to “select” Xbox Insiders, with broader Insider ring availability planned over time before a general release to all players. Microsoft stresses that it’s listening closely to feedback from the community, and it expects to ship more fan-requested improvements throughout the year.

If you’re already in the Xbox Insider Program, you can share your feedback and get support through the official Xbox Insider subreddit, where staff, moderators, and fellow Insiders are active and responsive. If you’re not yet an Insider but want early access to features like these, you can join by installing the Xbox Insider Hub on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, or Windows PC, then opting into the appropriate preview rings.

For now, this update is another sign that Microsoft is continuing to refine the Xbox experience in ways that reward long-term players and make everyday console use a little more straightforward.
