Microsoft has recently announced its Microsoft end of support schedule for several products in 2024. This means that these products will no longer receive security updates, non-security updates, free or paid assisted support options, or online technical content updates. Here’s a rundown of the key products and their respective Microsoft end of support dates:

Microsoft End of Support 2024: Product retirements

Several products, governed by the Modern Policy, will retire in 2024:

  • Azure Data Lake Storage Gen1: February 29, 2024
  • Azure Cloud Services (classic), Machine Learning Studio (classic), Visual Studio for Mac: August 31, 2024
  • Azure Database for MySQL Single Server: September 16, 2024

End of Servicing

The following product versions will end support in 2024:

  • Microsoft Configuration Manager, Version 2207: February 12, 2024
  • Dynamics 365 Business Central on-premises (Modern Policy), 2022 release wave 2, version 21.x: April 14, 2024
  • .NET 7: May 14, 2024
  • Windows 10 Enterprise and Education, Version 21H2,
  • Windows 10 IoT Enterprise, Version 21H2: June 11, 2024
  • Microsoft Configuration Manager, Version 2211: July 19, 2024
  • Dynamics 365 Business Central on-premises (Modern Policy), 2023 release wave 1, version 22.x, Windows 11 Enterprise and Education, Version 21H2, Windows 11 Home and Pro, Version 22H2, Windows 11 IoT Enterprise, Version 21H2: October 8, 2024
  • Microsoft Configuration Manager, Version 2303: October 24, 2024
  • PowerShell, PowerShell 7.2 (LTS-current): November 8, 2024
  • Azure IoT Edge, Version 1.4 (LTS), .NET 6.0 (LTS): November 12, 2024

Extended support

Products moving from Mainstream to Extended Support in 2024 will continue to receive security updates at no cost but paid non-security updates and support will be available. During the Extended Support phase, Microsoft will not accept requests for design changes or new features.

What this means for users

The Microsoft end of support date for these products means that Microsoft will no longer provide updates or patches, which could potentially expose users to security vulnerabilities. Therefore, it’s crucial for users and IT professionals to plan for these transitions and updates. If you’re using any of these products, consider upgrading to a newer version or finding a suitable alternative.

For technical support, customers must purchase Extended Security Updates and have an active support plan in place. To avoid potential security vulnerabilities and minimize risk for your App Service apps, follow the steps to upgrade your app to .NET 8 (LTS) by 12 November 2024.
