And for those who can’t get enough, Fallout 76 and For Honor remain unlocked until February 5, giving you extra days to grind achievements, explore new updates, and maybe even decide to buy them at a discount that lets you keep your Gamerscore progress intact.

How to Access Xbox Free Play Days

Getting started is simple. You can visit the official Xbox Store through your console by heading to the Subscriptions tab and scrolling to the Free Play Days collection. Alternatively, head to Xbox.com and search for each game’s page. Make sure you’re signed into your Microsoft account, and you’ll see the option to install directly to your Xbox One or Xbox Series X|S.

Once downloaded, these titles play just like any other game in your library for the duration of the event. If you decide to buy, you’ll unlock all progress, including achievements, Gamerscore, and any earned content.

Fallout 76 – The Wasteland Awaits

Developed by Bethesda Game Studios, Fallout 76 continues to evolve with constant content drops, public events, and community-driven updates. Set twenty-five years after the Great War, players emerge from Vault 76 to reclaim a devastated Appalachian wasteland teeming with mutated wildlife, faction wars, and endless crafting opportunities.

While once controversial, Fallout 76 has grown into a fan-favorite multiplayer RPG. From settlement building to group expeditions and seasonal events, there’s always something new happening in West Virginia. This weekend’s free access is the perfect chance for newcomers to see what the updated version of Fallout 76 feels like, especially with the game marked down to just $7.99 (80% off) through the Xbox Store.

For Honor – Sharpen Your Blade and Your Skills

Ubisoft’s For Honor remains one of the most unique multiplayer experiences Xbox offers, blending brutal melee combat with strategy and team coordination. Players can embody warriors from different factions—Knights, Vikings, Samurai, and Wu Lin—as they battle for glory across multiple modes.

This weekend, the fan-favorite Starter Dominion event returns, running from January 29 through February 12. In this limited-time mode, Ubisoft has balanced the playing field for beginners by disabling Gear Perks, Feats, Stamina, and Revenge mechanics. That levels the focus purely on player skill and teamwork, making it the perfect time for new players to cut their teeth.

With For Honor currently 90% off (just $2.99) and optimized for Xbox Series X|S, this Free Play Days event could rekindle interest in the game’s competitive scene—especially for fans who want to unleash chaos on the battlefield.

Dead by Daylight – Horror Returns with Stranger Things

Xbox Free Play Days: Fallout 76, For Honor, Dead by Daylight, and Grounded 2 Free This Weekend

The asymmetrical horror title Dead by Daylight from Behaviour Interactive has been terrifying players since its debut, and now it’s even darker. The Stranger Things universe collides once again with Dead by Daylight’s twisted multiverse in the Chapter 2: The Upside Down’s Return event.

This update introduces Vecna, the new killer known as “The First,” alongside new survivors Dustin Henderson and Eleven—two beloved characters from Netflix’s Stranger Things. These additions bring a surge of excitement back to The Fog, giving newcomers an irresistible reason to try it out during the free weekend.

Xbox players can experience this latest crossover free from January 29–February 1, and during the event, the base game is discounted by up to 60%, with DLCs and cosmetics available at reduced prices through February 9. Fans of survival horror and tension-filled multiplayer won’t want to miss this one.

Grounded 2 – Survival Grows Bigger (and Smaller)

Last but not least, Grounded 2 from Xbox Game Studios drops players back into an oversized backyard adventure—but this time, the world feels even grander. Continuing Obsidian Entertainment’s original concept, Grounded 2 expands exploration, crafting, and base building with a thriving open world that’s both whimsical and deadly.

The newly added Community Garden biome brings players into a vast new zone filled with twisting trellises, fungi-filled caverns, and new Tier III materials for late-game crafting. Innovations like the Ladybug Buggy, featuring a working water cannon, make traversal and combat more dynamic than ever. Whether you prefer solo exploration or co-op building with friends, Grounded 2 offers a balance of creativity and survival challenge that appeals to all kinds of gamers.

Even better, like the others, Grounded 2 is available through both Xbox Game Pass and PC Game Pass, as well as Xbox Play Anywhere, making it easy to continue your world across platforms once Free Play Days ends.

Why Xbox Free Play Days Matter

Free Play Days continues to be one of Xbox’s most player-friendly promotions, letting gamers test premium titles with zero commitment. It’s also a smart move from Microsoft’s marketing team—a way to spotlight older games that have evolved with new content and technical updates, while simultaneously driving digital sales through deep discounts.

The mix this weekend exemplifies Xbox’s diverse ecosystem—open world exploration (Fallout 76), tactical combat (For Honor), asymmetrical horror (Dead by Daylight), and creative survival (Grounded 2). There’s something here for nearly every type of player, reinforcing why the Xbox brand continues to thrive on accessibility and inclusion.

Events like this also double as stress tests for Game Pass compatibility and cross-platform play improvements—both major focus areas for Microsoft heading into 2026 as they continue integrating Game Pass more tightly into Windows, mobile, and cloud experiences.

Don’t Miss the Free Weekend

From post-apocalyptic wastelands to medieval duels and backyard adventures, this weekend’s Xbox Free Play Days lineup has you covered. Whether you’re an achievement hunter, a casual explorer, or a competitive fighter, these titles offer a great excuse to fire up your console and dive into something new.

The Xbox Free Play Days event runs from January 29 through February 1, with select titles remaining free until February 5. Discounts on purchases will remain available while the promotion lasts, so if you fall in love with one of these worlds, you can pick it up permanently at a fraction of its regular price.
