XBOX is rolling out a fresh set of console features that should make it easier to preserve memorable multiplayer moments, keep tabs on achievement progress, and manage an ever-growing game library. The latest XBOX Insider update introduces optional chat audio in game captures, more flexible achievement sorting, cloud save restoration tools, and a major wishlist expansion.
The update begins rolling out today, August 5, with some features initially limited to the Alpha Skip-Ahead ring before reaching more XBOX Insiders and, eventually, more players. In its official XBOX Wire announcement, XBOX says the changes are focused on giving players “more flexibility, convenience, and ways to get the most out of XBOX.”
For players who have ever captured a great multiplayer clip only to realize the party conversation was missing, the new capture controls may be the headline feature. XBOX Insiders in Alpha Skip-Ahead can now choose whether chat audio is included when creating a game capture.
New XBOX Insider Update lets players include chat audio in game clips
Multiplayer games often create the best clips because of the people playing alongside you. Whether it is a clutch win, a hilarious mistake, or a chaotic co-op moment, the reactions from friends can be just as important as the gameplay itself.
With the new option, players in an XBOX party can choose to have party chat included in recorded clips. The privacy aspect is important here: each person controls whether their own voice can be captured. In other words, a player’s voice will only be added to a recording when they have opted in.
XBOX is also extending the option beyond parties. Players who are not in an XBOX party will be able to choose whether game chat audio is included in their captures as well. That should be especially useful for players who want to keep clips from competitive matches, co-op sessions, or spontaneous conversations with other players.
The feature is initially limited to Alpha Skip-Ahead members, so most console owners will need to wait for a broader rollout. Still, it is a practical update that gives XBOX captures a little more personality without taking control away from other players.
Achievement history is getting easier to sort
XBOX is also improving the way Insiders can browse their achievement history. The default “last played” view is still available, but Alpha Skip-Ahead members will gain several new sorting choices.
Players can sort games by:
- Name
- Completion percentage
- Gamerscore earned
- Number of Achievements unlocked
Each sorting option can be viewed in ascending or descending order. That means players can quickly find unfinished games with low completion percentages, see where they have earned the most Gamerscore, or pull up old favorites without endlessly scrolling through a long achievement history.
For completionists, this could be one of the most useful quality-of-life changes in the update. Sorting by completion percentage makes it easier to identify games that are close to 100%, while sorting by unlocked Achievements can help surface titles worth revisiting.
Cloud save recovery starts with Forza Horizon 6
The biggest addition for players concerned about progress loss is the ability to restore previously synced cloud saves directly from an XBOX console. The feature is already available to XBOX Insiders and will begin rolling out to more players next week.
At launch, cloud save restoration is supported in Forza Horizon 6. Players who need to recover an earlier version of their save can browse available cloud save versions and restore one directly from the console.
To find the option in supported games, players can navigate to:
Manage game & add-ons > Saved data > Restore saved data
Save recovery could be especially valuable when a newer save becomes corrupted, progress is overwritten, or players simply need to return to an earlier state. XBOX says support for additional games is planned in future updates, although it has not yet shared a full list of titles or a timetable for broader compatibility.
XBOX wishlists now support up to 1,000 games
Not every update is limited to the XBOX Insider program. XBOX has also expanded wishlist capacity for all players, raising the limit to 1,000 games.
That is a huge increase for players who use their wishlist to follow upcoming releases, monitor sales, build a backlog, or remember games they may want to pick up later. With so many digital releases, Game Pass additions, DLC packs, and future launches to track, the previous wishlist limit could become restrictive for active XBOX players.
The larger wishlist will be especially helpful heading into the busy fall and holiday release season. Players can keep tabs on games they are waiting to buy without needing to remove older entries just to make room for something new.
How to get the new XBOX features
The chat capture and achievement sorting features are beginning with XBOX Insider update in the Alpha Skip-Ahead ring. Cloud save recovery is already available to XBOX Insiders for supported titles and is expected to begin reaching more players next week, starting with Forza Horizon 6.
Players who want early access to future console updates can join the XBOX Insider Program through the XBOX Insider Hub on XBOX Series X|S, XBOX One, or Windows PC. XBOX also encourages Insiders to share feedback through its XBOX Player Voice page.
This update is not a dramatic dashboard redesign, but it delivers the kinds of quality-of-life improvements players notice over time. Better captures, smarter achievement browsing, safer cloud saves, and much larger wishlists all make the everyday XBOX experience a little more useful.
