Microsoft will enable in‑country data processing for Microsoft 365 Copilot in the UAE, targeting early 2026 availability for qualified organizations and hosting in Microsoft’s Dubai and Abu Dhabi cloud data centers. The initiative focuses on data residency, regulatory compliance, and lower‑latency performance for public sector and regulated environments, aligning with the UAE’s AI strategies and governance policies.
What was announced
In a press release, Microsoft revealed a strategic investment to process Microsoft 365 Copilot interactions within the UAE for qualified organizations, reinforcing sovereign control over prompts and responses under normal operations. The capability will run from local cloud regions in Dubai and Abu Dhabi with availability planned for early 2026. The announcement underscores Microsoft’s commitment to secure, compliant AI deployments tailored to the UAE’s public sector priorities.
“The UAE has always led with vision and ambition… This move will empower our government entities to adopt AI confidently, knowing their data is protected and processed within our borders,” said H.E. Omar Sultan Al Olama, UAE Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence.
Why it matters
Local processing helps organizations meet national data protection and AI governance requirements while improving performance by reducing latency for Copilot interactions. The move supports responsible AI adoption and provides assurance that interaction data is stored and processed within UAE borders under normal operations.
Who qualifies and when
Access is limited to qualified UAE organizations, with Microsoft stating the capability will be available in early 2026. Hosting in the Dubai and Abu Dhabi data centers enables a compliant path to adopting Copilot while maintaining data residency.
“We commend Microsoft’s proactive approach to enabling secure AI services… Together, we are laying the foundation for a digitally empowered and cyber‑resilient ecosystem,” said H.E. Dr. Mohamed Al Kuwaiti, Head of Cybersecurity for the UAE Government.
Policy and partners
Microsoft confirms compliance with the UAE Cybersecurity Council’s AI Policy and notes active collaboration with the Cybersecurity Council (CSC) and Dubai Electronic Security Center (DESC) to align controls for regulated entities. Strategic partner G42 will support secure AI adoption across government, reinforcing governance, integrity, and regulatory alignment.
“Copilot’s powerful capabilities will be consistently governed by the principles laid out in the Dubai AI Security Policy,” said H.E. Yousuf Hamad Al Shaibani, CEO of DESC.
AI skills impact
Microsoft cites more than 152,000 new jobs projected from its UAE cloud ecosystem, signaling broader economic impact tied to secure AI adoption. The company also commits to skill one million UAE learners in AI by 2027 to accelerate a trusted and inclusive digital future.
