Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 22635.3430 (KB5036992) brings new Copilot in Windows improvements and more to Beta Channel users

Microsoft has rolled out Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 22635.3430 (KB5036992), to users in the Beta Channel, as announced by Amanda Langowski and Brandon LeBlanc on April 5, 2024. This release marks a significant step forward in the development of Windows 11 Insiders, introducing a range of new features, improvements, and fixes aimed at enhancing the user experience and productivity.

Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 22635.3430 (KB5036992) key features and improvements

Unified Beta Channel experience: With this update, all Windows Insiders in the Beta Channel will now operate under the same build number (Build 22635.xxxx) thanks to an enablement package. This change is designed to streamline the update process and ensure consistency across devices for beta testers.

Toggle for latest updates: Insiders now have the option to turn on a toggle within the Settings > Windows Update section to receive the latest updates as they become available. This feature allows users to be among the first to access new features gradually rolled out by Microsoft. For those who prefer a more stable experience, keeping the toggle off will ensure that updates are received at a more measured pace, once they are deemed ready for broader release.

Copilot in Windows enhancements: Starting with build 22635.3286, Microsoft began rolling out a new experience for Copilot in Windows that showcases how Copilot can accelerate and enhance work. With the latest build, when users copy both text or image files, the Copilot icon will change appearance and animate to indicate that Copilot can assist. Hovering over the Copilot icon will reveal a menu of actions, such as creating a similar image or analyzing an image. Selecting an action will launch Copilot with the action ready-to-go.

Windows Share improvements: The ability to share directly to specific Microsoft Teams Channels and group chats within the Windows share window has been reintroduced. This feature, initially rolled out with build 22635.2776 but temporarily disabled to address some issues, is now available again for users signed in with a Microsoft Entra ID.

Known issues

General: An ongoing investigation into an issue where Internet Information Services (IIS) and Windows Communication Foundation (WCF) may not function correctly after installing this update.

Widgets: Insiders who have the new position for the Widgets entry-point on left-aligned taskbars may encounter several issues, including problems with swipe invocation, unpinning Widgets, incorrect positioning of the Widgets board when Copilot is in side-by-side mode, and taskbar refreshes when toggling Widgets on or off.

What is the Beta Channel?

The Beta Channel serves as a preview platform for experiences that are closer to what Microsoft intends to ship to general customers. It represents a parallel development path alongside the Dev Channel, and not every feature tested in the Beta Channel is guaranteed to ship.

Future rollouts and Copilot availability

Microsoft plans to increase the rollouts of features to everyone with the toggle turned on over time. Additionally, Copilot in Windows is currently in preview and being rolled out gradually to Windows Insiders in select global markets, including North America, the United Kingdom, parts of Asia, and South America, with intentions to expand to additional markets in the future.

This update underscores Microsoft’s commitment to enhancing Windows 11 through the Windows Insider Program, leveraging community feedback to refine features before their general release.
