Microsoft has released the optional KB5039302 preview update for Windows 11, bringing several new features and addressing various issues. This update is available for Windows 11 versions 22H2 and 23H2, advancing the OS to Build 22631.3810 and 22621.3810 respectively.
Windows 11 KB5039302 key features and improvements
- Return of Show Desktop button: The update brings back the Show Desktop button on the taskbar by default. Users can adjust this in Taskbar settings[4].
- Enhanced file compression options: File Explorer now allows users to create 7-Zip and TAR files directly from the right-click context menu. This includes new compression tools and options for various formats like gzip and bzip2.
- Game Pass recommendation card: A new Game Pass recommendation card has been added to the Settings home page for users who actively play games on their PC.
- Emoji 15.1 support: The update adds support for Emoji 15.1, including new emojis like horizontal and vertical head shake, phoenix, lime, brown mushroom, and broken chain.
- Improved file sharing: Users can now copy files directly from the Windows Share window using a new Copy button.
- New account manager: A gradual rollout of a new account manager on the Start menu has begun, offering easier access to account benefits and settings.
Bug fixes
The update addresses several issues, including:
- Audio distortions in Snipping Tool video recordings.
- Problems with entering special characters using the Japanese 106 keyboard.
- Issues with ejecting USB devices when Task Manager is open.
Installation and availability
To install the KB5039302 update, users can go to Settings > Windows Update and manually check for updates. Alternatively, it can be downloaded from the Microsoft Update Catalog.
It’s important to note that some features are being rolled out gradually and may not be immediately available to all users after installation.
