Windows 11 26H2 Is Rolling Out Now, But Many PCs Still Can’t See It

Microsoft has started rolling out the Windows 11 2026 Update, also known as version Windows 11 26H2. But if you have checked Windows Update and do not see it yet, do not panic—Microsoft is releasing the update gradually, and not every eligible PC will receive it on day one.

The good news is that there are a few safe steps you can take to make sure your PC is ready and improve your chances of receiving the Windows 11 26H2 update sooner.

Why Windows 11 26H2 may be missing

Windows 11 version 26H2 is generally available, but Microsoft is using a controlled rollout. That means the company is offering it first to eligible Windows 11 24H2 and 25H2 devices, then expanding availability over time.

Microsoft can also temporarily hold back an update from specific PCs if it detects a compatibility issue that could create a poor installation experience. This is called a safeguard hold, and it is designed to prevent known problems—not to permanently block your device.

Turn on early updates

The first setting to check is Windows Update’s option for receiving the latest available updates sooner.

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Select Windows Update.
  3. Turn on Get the latest updates as soon as they’re available.
  4. Select Check for updates.
  5. Look for Windows 11, version 26H2.
  6. Select Download and install if it appears.

Microsoft says eligible PCs running Windows 11 24H2 or 25H2 can receive version 26H2 through this controlled rollout.

Check your current Windows version

Windows 11 26H2 is designed as a quick enablement update for PCs already using Windows 11 version 24H2 or version 25H2. In simple terms, those releases share the same servicing foundation, so the upgrade should be smaller and faster than a full Windows reinstall.

To see which Windows version you have:

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Choose System.
  3. Select About.
  4. Scroll to Windows info.
  5. Check the number next to Version.

If your PC is still on an older Windows 11 release, Windows may need to install other updates before 26H2 becomes available.

Install pending updates first

Open Settings > Windows Update and install every available quality, security, or servicing update. Restart the PC when prompted, then return to Windows Update and select Check for updates again.

This matters because Microsoft offers 26H2 to eligible devices on its newer Windows 11 servicing branch. A fully updated PC is less likely to miss a prerequisite update.

Check storage and compatibility

Make sure the PC has enough free space before attempting a major Windows update. Windows 11’s baseline requirements include at least 64 GB of storage, although keeping considerably more free space available is sensible for downloads, temporary installation files, and recovery options.

If you recently added older hardware, drivers, or peripherals, Microsoft may delay 26H2 because of a known compatibility concern. In that situation, avoid unofficial bypasses and wait for the safeguard hold to be removed.

Do not confuse 26H1 with 26H2

Some newer devices may ship with Windows 11 version 26H1. Microsoft says 26H1 is intended for certain new hardware and is not a conventional feature-update path for existing PCs, so those devices will not upgrade directly to 26H2.

For most people using Windows 11 24H2 or 25H2, though, the update should arrive through Windows Update once the device becomes eligible in Microsoft’s phased rollout.

When should you wait?

Waiting is reasonable if 26H2 does not appear after following these steps. The update rollout will continue expanding over the coming months, and Microsoft may withhold it when it identifies a potential issue affecting your particular configuration.

Because version 26H2 is built on the same servicing foundation as recent Windows 11 releases, it is expected to install relatively quickly for eligible 24H2 and 25H2 PCs. Keep checking Windows Update periodically rather than downloading unknown files or using registry workarounds from untrusted sources.
